If you are looking for something truly different then the Bengal is the cat for you; stunningly eye-catching, the Bengal is certainly not a cat to be given the run of the neighbourhood. A large to medium cat his origins lie in crossings of the small Asian Leopard Cat to domestic cats in order to achieve an exotic appearance but without a wildcat temperament. Early experiments produced some distinctly unreliable cats but today they have developed into a charming breed.
Bengals do not spend their time lazing around; they are very involved in what is going on around them and are not content to be decorative. The Bengal gives and demands attention and affection and if you choose to acquire one be prepared to offer him plenty of stimulus. He is obviously an indoor cat as his stunning appearance make him a magnet for thieves, and like all indoor cat much thought must be given to offering him an environment that is stimulating and interesting. The Bengal is a happy and intelligent cat he is well-suited to family life, though with children in the house there is always the very real problem of doors and windows being left open and the risk of a cat escaping.
There are two coat patterns; the Spotted or Marbled with base colours in the brown spectrum, ranging from brown to ivory with spotting and marbling ranging in shades from rust to black. Additionally, there are the Snow colours which have a very pale base colour.
