Cornish Rex

Cornish Rex

Cornish Rex

The Cornish Rex, originating from Cornwall, is unmistakable with his very soft, wavy, close coat and Foreign body shape. Long bodied and long tailed with the typical wedge-shaped head and large ears, set high on the head the Ciornish Rex is a curious mutation from a Cornish housepet.

Finely boned and with an arched back like coursing hounds, they are smallish cats but conceal a good deal of muscular strength and are very fast and agile. Pick one up and you will be surprised at the weight. The unusual Rex coat has a luxurious feel to it suggesting velvet or silk, and it is said that they are less likely to trigger an allergic response than most breeds to people who are sensitive to cats.

The Cornish Rex originated in 1950 with a single kitten, to be called Kallibunker, showing Rex characteristics born in a litter of five to a domestic tortie and white pet queen. A breeding programme was begun and all Cornish Rex today can be traced back to Kallibunker.

The Cornish Rex is a lively, active and affectionate cat; he probably won’t sit still for very long and will take a great interest in the activities of the household. Good with all the family he will make sure that whatever is going on he is involved. All colours and coat patterns are permitted.

Although Cornish Rex have no particular health problems, it makes good sense to insure your cats.  Many breeders sell their kittens with six weeks free insurance cover.  More and more owners are now insuring their pets as advances in veterinary medicine, plus the soaring costs of drugs can mean astronomical bills.
