Korat

Korat cat

Korat

The green-eyed silvery-blue Korat is a medium sized cat, balanced all through without exaggeration with the exception of the eyes which give the impression of being too big for the face.

the Korat is a quiet and gentle cat, disliking sudden or loud noises which should be borne in mind if you are thinking of acquiring one. Although Korats will mix with other cats they do like to be top cat and will assert themselves.

In their native country of Thailand the Korat is considered to be a symbol of good fortune; their coat is the colour of rain clouds signifying wealth and the eyes the colour of young rice signifying wealth. A gift of a pair of Korats to a bride on marriage augurs happiness, and there are records of the Korat going back many hundreds of years in Thailand.

They have gradually increased in popularity in the UK; in 1994 78 Korats were registered with the GCCF and in 2003 the number was 131. However, in the numerically small breeds fluctuations in numbers can represent the difference between several litters being bred.

Although Korats have no particular health problems, it makes good sense to insure your cats.  Many breeders sell their kittens with six weeks free insurance cover.  More and more owners are now insuring their pets as advances in veterinary medicine, plus the soaring costs of drugs can mean astronomical bills.
