Pedigree cats are very variable in their temperaments and requirements; some are real family cats whilst others prefer a quieter environment.  We have plenty of information on varying requirements of different breeds in our pedigree cats pages.  There are a number of books which discuss cat breeds and which will help you identify the right breed for you.

Vet bills can be horrendous, so it makes sense to learn as much about basic healthcare as possible.  There are highly comprehensive veterinary manuals which cover discussions on vaccination, allergens, dental disease and much else, in addition to holistic approaches to cat and kitten care.  The Catlopaedia is a very useful manual which is a handbook for novice and experienced owners alike.

Preparation is very important before bringing your kitten home; there are a number of books on kitten care, including an excellent manual from the RSPCA.  These books are inexpensive and are well worth buying so you can get an instant answer to all the questions that come up for the first-time (and the experienced!) cat owner.
