The Tiffanie belongs to the Asian Group of cat breeds and is basically the long haired variety of Burmilla. The Burmilla was created by breeding together a Lilac Burmese queen and a Silver Chinchilla male. The long-hair gene remained as a recessive, and although long-haired kittens appeared from time to time in litters of Burmillas, they were ignored as not being of value to the purpose of the breeding programme which was to produce silver shaded Shorthairs.
A group of breeders saw the attraction of the Tiffanie and worked together to foster the development of this new member of the Asian Group. Like the rest of the Asians, temperament is outstanding. Progress has been slow but the Tiffanie has now achieved Championship status. Numbers registered with the GCCF have crept up gradually from 13 in 1994 to 59 in 2003.
Although the Tiffanie has no particular health problems, it makes good sense to insure your cats. Many breeders sell their kittens with six weeks free insurance cover. More and more owners are now insuring their pets as advances in veterinary medicine, plus the soaring costs of drugs can mean astronomical bills.
